Phyllis Papa is awarded the 1998 Brazilian Gold MedalWhat is the Brazilian Gold MedalThe Brazilian Gold Medal of Honor is awarded to those men and women who have made a significant contribution to man's constant struggle to improve himself. The first medal was presented in the year 1958. Since then it has been presented in the cities of Rio De Janeiro, Buenos Aires, Washington D.C., Plano Texas, Philadelphia, Casteldermot, Ireland, Belo Horizonte, Brazil and Plato Alto, California. The Gold Medal is presented in a symbolic ceremony entitled, "The Brazilian Ceremony Of The Gloves". Following the ceremony, the medal remains with the recipient and his heirs, in his own nation. The right glove is dispatched to Rio De Janeiro to be displayed in the Centro Rehabilitacao, Nossa Senhora Da Gloria. The left glove remains in Philadelphia at the Institutes for the Achievement of Human Potential.
