History of The Company
The ACBT has been in existence since
1982 and has performed extensively in the Atlantic City area at the
Casino-Hotels and colleges. In addition to an exciting repertoire, they
have presented special children's performances such as the famous
Peter and the Wolf as well as a number of lecture demonstrations
in local schools. They have toured outside the area in Monmouth, Trenton,
Cherry Hill and Philadelphia. ACBT has been the resident
Dance Company at the Keswick Theatre in Glenside, Pennsylvania 1984. The
company held a dance residency at the Atlantic Community College and
at the Richard Stockton College.
The ACBT has performed the Nutcracker to sold out houses at the Richard Stockton College and Ocean County College since 1982. The Atlantic Contemporary Ballet Theatre has performed in a number of casinos with a long run at Tropicana and 64 performances in one month at the Playboy Hotel.
The ACBT is a unique chamber ballet company with an exciting repertoire which cherishes the great tradition of classical ballet and explores the contemporary. It is classic yet extremely different - versatile, dynamic, and particularly dramatic.

Atlantic Contemporary Ballet Theatre

Phyllis Papa, the founding Director, is an international ballet star who has
danced all over the world with American Ballet Theatre, Harkness Ballet,
Atars of the American Ballet
and Royal Danish Ballet. She was awarded the 1998 Brazilian
Gold Metal in Philadelphia for her work with the children of the world.
Miss Papa has choreographed a major part of the repertoire of the Atlantic
Contemporary Ballet Theatre. ACBT is a non-profit, tax-exempt company,
that performs in its own outlying communities as well as on tour.
